The Department employs 128 employees, out of which 20 are ENT specialists. The Department has 68 beds. The rooms are of a high accommodation standard, most of them single and double bedded rooms. The library is located within the seminar hall and due to its remarkable book and magazine collection, the library was also classified within “The European Book World” organisation. The Department also has its own museum in which exhibits since the foundation of the Department until today are deposited.



The Department disposes of 5 modern equipped operating rooms. The type of anaesthesia of the patient depends on the type of procedure (local intensified, inhalation, intravenous, “jet” anaesthesia). Postoperatively patients are placed into recovery rooms or the intensive care unit.



The ENT Outpatient Department consists of six specialised departments for outpatient, the anaesthesiology department and one day surgery. The premises of the one-day surgery and the operating room are also located at the Polyclinic.

The surgery for non-stop emergency examinations and interventions is located within the Institute for emergency medicine of the Clinical Hospital Centre Zagreb.

Annually over 35 thousand patients are examined at the Department. Approximately 4 thousand patients are operated.
The average time hospitalised patients spend in hospital is 5.3 days.



Among others, the following procedures are performed at the Department:

• Head and neck diagnostics and surgery
• Plastic-reconstructive procedures in the head and neck area
• Free micro-vascular flaps
• Plastic surgery (face lifting, auricle, nose, eyelid and scar correction)
• Thyroid gland and parathyroid surgery
• Endoscopic minimally invasive thyroid gland and parathyroid surgery
• Treatment within the paediatric otolaryngology
• Cochlear implants
• Surgical treatment of chronic ear infections and its complications
• Surgical treatment of cranial base tumors
• Minimally invasive endoscopic sinus surgery
• Endonasal endoscopic orbital and optic canal decompression, endonasal endoscopic closures of the CSF-leaks and surgery for tumors from the anterior, middle and posterior skull base
• Endonasal endoscopic repair of choanal atresia and endonasal endoscopic dacryocystorhinostomy
• Tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy (standard, laser and ultrascision-knife techniques)
• Diagnostics of hearing disorders
• ENG, computer-videonistagmography and craniocorporography
• Hearing rehabilitation
• Phonosurgery
• Speech and phonetic education and rehabilitation

The Department uses modern means and equipment in diagnostics and surgery, among others laser, harmonic scalpel, intraoperative neuromonitoring, ENT navigation systems, JET anaesthesia, computer-videonistagmography and craniocorporography, management system for operating rooms etc.

The Department is an educational centre for the validation of the equipment of the companies Karl Storz, Johnson-Johnson, Medtronic, Olympus, Dräger and ERBE.
